James Proctor

James is a dedicated attorney whose multi-faceted background, spanning military service, academic excellence, and experience in insurance defense, provides him with a unique and disciplined perspective on the practice of law. Currently serving clients across a broad spectrum of legal matters, James brings a steadfast commitment to advocacy and a deep-rooted connection to the Central Valley community.

Before embarking on his legal career, James served with distinction in the United States Coast Guard as a Boatswain’s Mate. His time in the military instilled in him the core values of duty, precision, and resilience, traits that now define his approach to complex litigation and client representation. His commitment to service extended into his time as a student at Fresno City College, where he worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fresno. In this role, he served as a vital resource for fellow veterans, assisting them in the often-complex transition from military life to the civilian education system and ensuring they received the post-service healthcare they earned.

Background & Biography

James began his academic journey at Fresno City College, where he earned his Associate of Science degree in Business Administration, laying the groundwork for his future expertise in corporate and commercial law. He subsequently attended San Joaquin College of Law, obtaining his Juris Doctor. His tenure in law school was marked by noteworthy academic performance and active institutional leadership. During his third year, he was honored as “Law Student of the Year,” a testament to his dedication to the study of law. He also received an Academic Achievement Award for finishing at the top of his class in Business Organizations, highlighting his knowledge in corporate structures and governance.

Beyond the classroom, James was a prominent figure in the law school community. He served two years on the board of Law Students United in Tolerance and spent three years on the boards of both the Christian Legal Society and the Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity. These roles allowed him to foster a spirit of collaboration and ethical practice among his peers.

Prior to joining Harris Law Firm, James spent five years working in the field of insurance defense. This experience provided him with an “insider’s view” of how insurance companies evaluate claims and manage litigation, an invaluable asset he now utilizes to benefit his clients.
